You just spent good money on synthetic oil. Then you put it through a $30 TT filter from the parts shop on the corner.
That filter is now the weakest link in your engine's protection system. It doesn't matter how good the oil is if the filter can't keep contaminants out.
How Oil Filters Work
The concept is simple. Oil flows through a filter media that traps particles before they reach your engine's bearings, camshaft, and cylinder walls. The media is either cellulose (wood pulp), synthetic, or a blend.
Cheap filters use cellulose. It works, but the pores are larger. Particles under 20 microns pass right through. For reference, the clearance between your engine bearings is about 20-30 microns. So a cheap filter is letting through particles that are the exact size to cause wear.
AMSOIL Ea Filters
AMSOIL's Ea (Efficiency/capacity) filters use synthetic nanofiber media. The pores are smaller and more uniform. They trap particles down to about 2 microns at 98% efficiency.
More importantly, they maintain flow as they load up with contaminants. Cellulose filters restrict flow faster as they get dirty, which means less oil reaching your engine between changes. Nanofiber media resists this restriction.
If you're running AMSOIL's extended drain intervals (up to 25,000 miles on Signature Series), you need a filter that can last that long. The Ea filter is designed for this. A cellulose filter isn't.
Trinidad Dust and Road Conditions
This isn't a controlled lab environment. Trinidad roads throw up dust, grit, and debris that ends up in your engine's air intake and eventually your oil. Construction traffic on the highways kicks up fine silica particles that are incredibly abrasive.
A filter that's efficient at removing small particles handles these conditions better. It's not glamorous, but it's the difference between 200,000 km and 300,000 km on an engine.
What We Carry
The Car Bar stocks AMSOIL Ea oil filters, air filters, and fuel filters for most popular vehicles in Trinidad. Hilux, Corolla, Civic, CRV, Ranger, Navara, you name it. If we don't have your application in stock, we can order it.
We also carry standard replacement filters for people who aren't ready for the AMSOIL ecosystem. No pressure.
